Family Portraits at NCMA

Have you SEEN a more photogenic family? I mean, seriously. The mom put this together kindof spur of the moment- and rocked it- everyone looks great and I love how well they fit into the modern architecture at the museum. Thanks for such a great session!

In keeping with their session ‘feel’ and also the feel of their home, they opted for acrylic blocks to show off their artwork and it was the PERFECT choice

Family Portraits – NCMA

Fall is a very busy time for most photographers – it’s the perfect time here in the southeast to be outside with pretty colors and cooler temps for sure. One of my favorite places for portraits is the NC Museum of Art grounds which is where this awesome family chose to go.

thanks for a great great session guys!

High School Senior – City and Farm Portrait Sessions

Senior sessions are usually up to two hours long – to accommodate some outfit changes and a couple different locations. But, when H’s mom mentioned they had a barn out in the country where H trains & rides, but they also wanted some sleek downtown photos, we knew we had to go with two sessions to really show off her two sides.

First up, was at her family’s riding center. It’s a gorgeous property with a lake and sweeping pastures – so we took our time and worked with four of her horses for various images.

Then a couple weeks later, she did a 180 and showed up downtown in a silk outfit and then a pair of leather pants. DANG. She owned these sessions for sure. Check her out and let me know what special places you’d go if you could go anywhere for your session.

P* Family at Historic Yates Mill | Raleigh Family Photographer

Ms. P is *amazing*  She’s not only a really cool person, but she and her bestie started a business years ago to help other moms & women commit to be fit – BootCamp Moms.  Let me tell you, they are NO JOKE.  They are two of the toughest trainers I have EVER worked out with – trust me, you leave exhausted and energized at the same time.  So, I always love getting to photograph her family, as it’s usually the only time I see her in ‘real clothes’ – with hair & make up done etc – and she’ stunning!  Way to go Jen!

The rest of her family is pretty amazing too – all smiles, all happy and fun and cuddly – just the way a family should be. They naturally hug and play, no coaching needed from me – which just makes the portraits that much better!  Her daughter is a a total fashionista at 7 and her little boy is HILARIOUS – big wonderful personality and so fun to photograph.  Thanks for spending the afternoon with me!!

Anna Maria & Jesse | Fuquay Varina Wedding Photographer

Anna Maria & Jesse were married last July at the Chateau Bellevie in Fuquay Varina – it’s a really lovely wedding & event space – just perfect for a smaller family wedding!  There are elegant staircases, posh getting-ready rooms, intimate dining areas and a beautiful pergola in the home’s gardens for ceremonies.   Anna Maria is romanian, and as it turns out – so is the owner of the Chateau – so it was just meant to be!

Anna Maria & Jesse are both recent college graduates and very accomplished musicians – she plays the violin (beautifully!) and he the Cello, so they incorporated their love of music into their ‘guest book’ which is a classical piece of music, matted for guests to sign – very creative!   The English Garden did another amazing job with their flowers, and  Stick Boy Cake Company made the most gorgeous & delicious cake!    It was such a pleasure to be included in this wedding gathering!

As a fun aside, the bride’s brother happens to be wedding DJ (and no, he didn’t have to DJ his own sister’s wedding) Chandler Collins with DJ Sensations DJ Company  here in Raleigh.  He’s super fun and later in the fall I even got to do his Senior Portraits in Downtown Raleigh – but that’s a different post 🙂

P Family at the JC Raulston Arboretum |

I love photographing at the Arboretum, I can go there every day and STILL every session is different – there are so many opportunities there!  This family was just perfect.  The 5 year old daughter was so fun and playful and her little brother was so excited to have all these great areas to explore….trees, ponds, fences, pathways…. all very cool stuff to a 3 year old boy!

Thanks so much P family for coming out to play!

🙂 Jen

Harvest themed wedding {Fuquay Varina Wedding Photographer}

When I first talked to Beth about photographing her wedding, she was also running for Mayor of her town, Fuquay-Varina. She said she really wanted the wedding to be homey, and to reflect the locale, so she decided on a ‘farm to table’ idea and carried it through beautifully. All of her vendors were local small businesses -including her caterer who caters farm fresh food out of her 1970’s camper, she calls “squash”. The ceremony and reception took place on Beth & Mike’s property – which backs up to a lake and has fields of tall grasses on one side. They both already have children, so it was a family filled day and all three children participated in the ceremony – the two girls as bridesmaids, and the Beth’s son even walked her down the aisle. All in all, this just couldn’t have been a more perfect day – sunshine, family and friends and all the good food & drink you could want. Congratulations Beth & Mike!

Rockin’ it out, Downtown Toddler style {Raleigh Children’s Photographer}

Swoon! Can you believe this little guys bright blue eyes??? When his mom said that he was all about his toy guitar, I knew I had to do a downtown ‘rock star’ style session for him – complete with a REAL guitar.

He was so funny, he LOVED the guitar, even though it was bigger than he was 🙂

He’s going to be a real heart breaker someday!

Gorgeous K family {Wake Forest Family Photographer}

I ADORE this family. They are truly some of the kindest, silliest and most fun people I know – it’s always a pleasure to spend time with them. The Dad is the BEST photographer’s assistant, seriously…. he

jumps around, makes silly noises and tells jokes – he will do whatever it takes to get his kids to laugh and play. He was even sick for this session and STILL rocked it!

We’ve been to Joyner Park before† but they wanted to go back again and I can’t blame them! It’s one of my favorite places…. open spaces, stack stone walls, tall grasses, big trees and great old barns.. What’s not to love!

Thanks for the fun, K Family – until next year!

Luckiest little brother {Raleigh Family Photographer}

Meet Max. Max has two amazing older sisters who no doubt will fawn all over him and take great care of him. That is, except for when they dress him up in a tutu, because that’s what big sisters do. The H family is another family I’ve photographed since there was only the ONE little girl, and it’s been such a pleasure to see them grow. I’m not sure how, but the Mom always looks so well styled and put together….

I’m pretty sure that if I had three kids you wouldn’t get me out of my yoga pants 🙂

Enjoy their playtime in the park!
